Let’s Crunch Some More Numbers

As you guys know, I love to crunch numbers when something doesn’t quite make sense to me.  One of those things that does not make sense right now is Governor Stupidhead’s program for green energy, in particular, using wind power for electricity generation.  So lets crunch some numbers.

Let’s look at what it would cost to replace the two coal fired plants owned by PSE&G that are located in New Jersey, namely the Hudson and Mercer plants.   I used the Hudson facility in a post before, but just to refresh you memory, Hudson is located in Jersey City, is a base load station and generates 991 Megawatts at full output.  Mercer plant is located just south of Trenton, is a base load plant and generates 777 Megawatts at full output.  Just for clarification, a base load plant normally runs full out and provides the “base” electricity that the grid needs.  Other plants, depending on need might start up to provide extra electricity when demand rises, and these plants are known as “peaking” plants.  But enough of that, let’s get back to crunching numbers.

Right now, the most that just about any wind power plant will produce is 1.5 Megawatts.  So, to replace the output from Hudson, we will divide 991 by 1.5 and get 660.  That is, we will need 660 wind power plants.  For Mercer, we will divide 777 by 1.5 and the result will be 518 wind power plants.  Imagine that, to replace two coal fired power plants we would have to build 1178 wind power plants!  And let’s not forget, we will have to find a place to build them.

Now, how much will this be?  Fair question, here’s the answer.  To construct (not buy the land) the cost for a wind power plant is $2,500 per Kilowatt.  So, a 1.5 Megawatt plant would cost $2.5 million.  To replace Hudson, the cost would be $1.65 billion, plus land cost.  To replace Mercer, $1.295 billion, plus land cost.  Heck of a lot of money, and even more needed to buy land!  But, wait Rich, how about a wind farm “off-shore”?  Good question, here is the answer, multiply the construction costs by 4, so Hudson’s replacement cost $6.6 billion, and Mercer costs $5.18 billion.  Further, the cost of producing a kilowatt hour (normal method of calculating retail cost) is just about the same for both coal and wind generated on land, the cost to produce a kilowatt hour off-shore would be about two and half time more than that of a coal plant.  So just double you electric bill and add some more.

After crunching these numbers, I believe it shows that this way of generating electricity is going to cost a lot of money, both for the construction and also the everyday price.  But there is one more problem I have to bring up; it won’t work!  Remember how I described the function of both the Hudson and Mercer plants?  Yes, they are base load plants, that have to run 24 hours a day, 7 day a week, and as many weeks as possible per year in order to deliver to you the least expensive electricity possible.  They can do this, because the fuel source they use is coal, and therefore can be stored, ready to burn at any time.  Now, can you see the problem with the wind power plants?  Of course you can, it is the wind!  If it is not windy everyday, they can’t run.  Now, if the wind isn’t blowing, what are we going to do?  Close down the state?  Burn foreign oil?

Now let’s sum this up, to close two coal fired plants that are reliable sources of electricity, we would have to spend at least $3 billion dollars (without the land) to build enough wind power plants that might or might not provide the same amount of electricity.  I don’t know about you, but I think I will stick to the old reliable coal powered plant, fueled with coal produced in the country.  Seems to me to be the only way to insure the future growth of this state.

Global Warming, a lawyer’s viewpoint

On Sunday I buy the Bergen Record, possibly the most liberal newspaper in the state.  I buy it for the local sports and schedule of events for the coming week, since Garfield is in Bergen county.  Then, just so I feel I get my monies worth, I read the fiction section, normally called the opinion page.  Well, one article in this section truly caught my attention, since it dealt with the subject of Global Warming.  As anyone who reads this blog knows, I am, along with an ever growing hoard of scientists convinced that this whole subject of Global Warming is nothing more than a bunch of crap.  Well, that hoard of scientists must be pretty large, because it seems that the Bergen Record could not find any true scientists to author an article on Global Warming.  In place of true experts, they have now turned to lawyers for their opinion.  Don’t believe me, well follow this link to the article:

http://www.northjersey.com/opinion/moreviews/37784219.html

When I read this article, the first thing I thought was what moron wrote this tripe.  That is why when I read the credentials of the authors, and I stopped rolling around the floor in a fit of laughter, I started to wonder why these professors of law would be writing this junk.  Well, not being a rocket scientist, it took me awhile, but after 10 seconds, I figured it out, the bastards are pushing this junk science in order to open the door for a whole new class of tort lawsuits, “the Greenhouse Warming Offense”.

Think about it, we could soon be seeing ads on TV asking you:

Sweating more than usual affecting your sex live?

Perspiration staining your best cloths?

People calling you a sweating pig?

Well, call the law offices of Shyster, Shyster, Pettifogger and Dufus and we will sue the crap out of everyone!  Yes, we win the big ones and of course keep our one-third of the award, and expenses and other monies so you will get at least a token and a cup of coffee out of it.

When a society turns science over to lawyers and politicians, and allows them to enact social policy based on fantasy, all of society will suffer.  This is one area of the social arena that we have to take away from these morons.  This state and country will need more and more energy from dependable sources in order to continue to provide all of our citizens a progressive lifestyle that they can afford.

To all of the idiot lawyers in New Jersey, when we take over Trenton in November, tort reform will be one of the areas that will be addressed.  But until then, you along with the other idiots in Trenton just remember, “IT’S TAXES, STUPID!”

Global Warming Again

Over the past few days, I have written some posts that I hope show you that the question of “Global Warming” and “Greenhouse Gases” is far from being answered.  Here is another site that I urge you to check out.  It is a petition drive that has been launched by two professors in Oregon.  Right now they have over 31,000 signatures of which over 9,000have Phd’s!  The statement is pretty simple, the whole idea of Global Warming/Greenhouse Gases is junk science.

http://www.petitionproject.org/

Take a moment, see the petition, see who have signed it, see what branches of the sciences they come from.  Start to really think about this problem, do you want to believe the likes of Al Gore, or real scientists?

No matter what the idiots in Trenton think about Global Warming, just remember we are coming for you in November, but until then, “IT’S TAXES, STUPID!”

Numbers just don’t add up!

Last Sunday in the opinion section of the Bergen Record, this article was published describing the “future” of the Meadowlands:

http://www.northjersey.com/opinion/moreviews/A_new_day_in_the_Meadowlands.html

Since this opinion was written by Robert Ceberio, who is the executive director of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, I would expect it to be very bias, but I could not believe how stupid it could be.  One statement in fact really stands out, Robert wrote the following:

“By 2028, the 14-town Meadowlands District will be generating, just from renewable energy sources, 30 or 40 megawatts of power. You’ll drive down the turnpike between exits 15W and 16W, and the solar panels and the wind turbines will have become such a part of life that you won’t even notice them.”

Wow, 30 to 40 megawatts of power, that’s is, wait that is nothing!  Just to give you an idea how that amount of power is so irrelevant, just across the river from the Meadowlands, in Jersey City is the Hudson Generating plant of PSEG.  This plant has two boilers, capable of producing 991 megawatts of power, which use both coal and oil.  This is 25 times the amount that Robert describes producing 20 years from now.  Of course, in 20 years we will have more people living here, unless everyone has moved out because of excessive taxes, who will need more and more electricity in order to maintain their lifestyle.  Now you should also know, even though we have generating plants like Hudson, Bergen, Mercer, etc.  this area still has to import power from outside the area.   This isthe reason that PSEG is going to have to build new transmission lines and why there is an ongoing outcry on where they should be built.

30 or 40 megawatts of power will not even help us to keep up with the increase in power demand in New Jersey.  We will have to build new generating facilities in this area that use conventional fuel sources that produce power when we need it.  If we hope to have a robust and viable economy in the future, New Jersey must not be lead by irrational nutcases, but by enlightened leaders who will have the internal fortitude to see that our basic energy needs are covered for the coming decades.

To Governor Stupidhead and the other nutcases in Trenton, start preparing for the exodus in November, but until then, “IT’S TAXES, STUPID!”

About time to change some minds!

A few days ago I wrote about an Australian professor who believes that Global Warming due to carbon emissions is bogus.  One of the reasons I wrote about this is because Australia is a signer of the Kyoto Protocol.  Being a signer of the protocol, they must monitor their compliance with the protocol, so someone had to develop the accounting model.  Well, that person has now declared that the whole idea that carbon emissions contribute to global warming is garbage.  Further, he says that the warming trend actually ended in 2001 and we have now entered a cooling cycle.  Don’t believe me?  Here is the link to the article:

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,24036736-7583,00.html

I hope you will take the time to read what this fellow has written, because you will not see this in the normal media outlets.  Here is one paragraph of this article that really sums up what he is trying to say:

“The world has spent $50 billion on global warming since 1990, and we have not found any actual evidence that carbon emissions cause global warming. Evidence consists of observations made by someone at some time that supports the idea that carbon emissions cause global warming. Computer models and theoretical calculations are not evidence, they are just theory.”

Hey, Governor Stupidhead and you other idiots in Trenton, global warming due to carbon emissions is a myth.  But it is no myth that come November, we are taking out the trash in Trenton.  Until that time though remember, “IT’S TAXES, STUPID!”

This is going to hurt

I am sure that most of you are aware that Governor Stupidhead unveiled an aggressive plan to reduce “Greenhouse Gas Emissions” in New Jersey.  It is simple, Stupidhead’s administration will tell you what type of cars you will drive, where and when development will occur and how electricity is produced.  In other words, Comrade Stupidhead will be dictating how you live your life!

But, he has not told you how much this will cost you.  Want a ballpark estimate?  A back of the napkin, round figure is a minimum of $8,000 per family of four!  Just remember, you will pay more for yourelectric power, gasoline (if he will let you have it), oil, food (it’s trucked kids), paper, coffee, etc.  Get the idea?  Every damn thing you now purchase will be jacked up in price (along with more sales tax) because of an idiot idea being passed around about carbon emissions!  Global warming is a myth and more and more of the world scientists are proclaiming just that.  But, Comrade Stupidhead does not care about that at all, because the all wise idiot knows best!

Come November, have you bags packed  Comrade Stupidhead because you are going out with the trash, but until then just remember “IT’S TAXES, STUPID!”

The Four Stooges visit the shore!

No, it was not Larry, Moe, Curly and Shemp.  Instead we had the New Jersey four stooges at the shore on Monday.  Yes folks, Corzine, Lautenberg, Menendez and Pallone showed up in Belmar to reaffirm their pledge to do Nothing!  We are now at crisis state in this country and they want to do Nothing!  Well at least they are consistent, except for raising taxes, they always do Nothing!

You have to love the lame excuses they come up with in defending their decision to do Nothing!  Oh, it will take 10 years to get any oil from off-shore drilling.  Offshore drilling would only supply 30 days of gasoline.  A “mishap” would endanger the $38 billion tourist economy.  Beaches in California are devoid of tourists where offshore drilling occurs.  It would have no effect on current gasoline prices, and on and on and on.

Now let’s look at this in a different light.  If people do not have reasonably priced gas, they will not be going to the shore.  What could be worse, possibility that there “might” be some crude oil washing up on the beach, or no tourists at all?  We use the excuse that we should look at “alternative energy sources” with no timetable available for when they might be available?   That we all look to the “good energy fairy” to bring us a “new” source of energy?

Let’s further look at the one excuse that I find to be the biggest joke of all, “it will take 10 years to get any oil from off-shore drilling”.  In ten years, Lautenberg will be dead (really can’t tell the difference right now).  Menendez will be serving the 6th year of incarceration in a federal prison if Christie stays on the job.  Corzine will be shacked up with another floozy and trying to convince her not to raise “her tolls” for the occasional ride.  And finally Pallone will be off to gather another useless award like the “Padma Bhushan” from a third world country.

We can get gas prices down.  We can rid ourselves of dependency on rag headed sheiks and their whims.  We can tell a two-bit dictator to take his oil and shove it!  It is called: DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW!

As always, to all of the idiot “stooges” in Trenton, IT’S TAXES STUPID!
